Can't get a spell checker to work.
Hi, I need a spell checker for the editor. I have gone through the plugins but can't get any of them to work. I guess the ones based on Office won't work in Vista with Office 2007, will they? With the ispell based one I do not know how to get ispell installed, and where I need to install it. Anyone ...

Far makes Windows tolerable, but how close to MC is it?
Hi,
When having to move to Windows I had to find a replacement of my all time favorite programs. I found Pine for e-mail and Far to replace Midnight Commander. Does anyone here know how close Far and MC are? They seem to have a lot in common, but how similar are they?

pepak What I meant was Help; it's a manual rather than a tutorial. It doesn't provide you with ideas what to want but once you open the root topic you'll find plenty of useful links there. Yes, it lacks searching but one can still compensate by a) searching in FarEng.hlf and viewing with HlfViewer ...

What's the difference between registered and eval version?
Hi, I recently registered Far since it is by far (pun intended) the best file manager out there making my (forced) transition to Windows tolerable. When I got my registration code the e-mail told me some functionality in Far gets enabled with registration, but not what it is. Does anyone here know w...

Directory shortcuts do not open in Far
Hi, In my Documents folder in Windows Vista I have some shortcut to folders on another encrypted partition. We are required to keep work related documents on encrypted partitions, so this is the we've been doing it both on Windows and Linux. On Linux I used Midnight Commander and when I clicked on t...

I tried Direct Directory plugin, and all saved dirs (I mean added in the list by Ins key) remained in the list after I've restarted FAR. You could also look in registry (HKCU/Software/FAR/Plugins/DirectDirectory) if saved directories appear (and remain) there. However, maybe plugin simply doesn't w...

Can't create archives with Far on Windows Vista.
Hi, I wanted to create a rar archive using Far, but when I try to do so I get an error message saying "Can not find executable file 'Rar'. For zip I get the same error, but then the missing file is "pkzipc". I do have a registered version of WinRar installed, but that's obviously not ...

Question about the built in ftp client in Far.
Hi, I recently came from Linux to Windows (have to for work purposes). I was an avid Midnight Commander user on Linux and found Far to be as close as I can get on Windows. I am going to need the built in FTP client, but I'm not able to figure it out. On MC after you have logged in the remote directo...

The Direct Directory plug-in won't save it's settings.
Hi. I need some sort of favorite directory plug-in in Far. The built in one is too limited. I like the Direct Directory one, and it works like it should except for the fact that it won't save the directory list so if I close Far it's gone the next time I open the program. I'm new to Far, so maybe I ...
