Yep, that was it. AutoRun setting turned out to be
AutoRun REG_EXPAND_SZ CD /D %CMDAUTORUNPATH%
The latter variable being my home directory.

Directory location in console different from panel locations
I didn't know exactly how to describe this in the subject line. I noticed something with my recent install of Far that I didn't notice a year ago on another machine (now in storage). A year later and no english version. I remember using this program (or one like it) on my desktop awhile back and that one was in english. Anyone know where that can be found? The original author doesn't carry his version. Hmm, just remembered. My desktop may be in storage but its hard drive is here...

About the low contrast text thing, I can barely see anything until I put the cursor in the line and then move the cursor. You might want to make your own unchanged/disabled text color to something readable. Under the color options check these: Dialog -> Unchanged text input Dialog -> Disabled input ...
