Wow!

I'll take a look at the source to see if I can help, but from what I already saw, there are a lot of Russian comments in there. It won't be very easy for people to help if it's hard to understand the comments. My Russian is very rusty (at best :) ), not having been used at all for 10+ years.

rob, Thank you, I suspected that, too. :-/ I think I'll have to stick with Windows Explorer then to access the root menu. It's strange that it doesn't happen on other folders, which - I'd assume - are locked the same way. (I can go inside a folder on drive Q:, move the selection bar onto the .. entr...

rob, Thank you very much - I didn't know that the Temp panel had these features - I use Far for a long time but I never opened the help on the Temp panel. It's good to know. :) Unfortunately, this still doesn't help me with my current problem - I get the same "Working copy Q: locked" error...

DrKnS, It's a good idea, I didn't think of it, but unfortunately, it doesn't work for me. I can bring up the EMenu plugin using F11->EMenu (my shortcut key, Ctrl-Shift-A doesn't seem to work in treeview, even though it is set up in such a way that it doesn't care about file or plugin panels), but wh...

t-rex, Thank you very much - I tried that in the past, but it's very cumbersome and there are no shortcuts to the drives - I have to use the arrows to navigate to the drive that I want. I could record a macro with the arrow keys, of course, but if I insert a removable drive, that would stop working....

Far wish: special item in root folder for the root folder...

Far guys, I'd like to ask for a new feature in Far that would make it easier to use the EMenu plugin in the root folder of a drive - as far as I know, this is now impossible, because in the root folder, there is no way to not to have a selection if there is at least a single file/folder there. Becau...

I agree with pepak - having a good folder hierarchy will do wonders - no amoung of indexing will do that. I also rarely have to use the search feature but even then I always use it on a specific set of folders, never entire hard drives, since I always know where a given file might be. It's always fa...

I wrote this for a friend of mine who had similar questions. This is really just some tips to start using Far and find your way around quickly. Far knows a lot more, but you can read about that in the help - it's good.

Hope you'll like Far, it's a good program.

Beyond Compare is quite excellent, maybe the best fileset compare tool I've ever used (I use it for about 2 years now, quite frequently.) I don't mind that Far doesn't have its features - Far is very good at managing files and Beyond Compare is very good at comparing files and folders. (It also has ...

t-rex,

Thanks for your reply. This is the link I thought of - maybe I misunderstood the alpha/beta status (because 1.70 beta 5 -> 1.70 alpha 6). Anyway, it's not important, I don't want to distract you from making the release :)

Status of Far 1.70

t-rex, I saw that you posted a sticky that beta 6 is available for download. However, on the download page it says that it's an alpha version (I don't quite understand it - is it a beta or an alpha :?: ), so I'd like to know, how stable this version is in general? Also, do you have any rough estimat...

Why FAR Manager it's kinda' dead project ...

I wouldn't mind Far staying a commercial project, as long as that ensures that it's updated at least along with the operating system updates. $20-something is not a huge price for a program with all the features of Far (features that most other file manager programs wouldn't even dream about.) A fil...
