filenames in encrypted RAR archives

I can make a RAR archive using SHIFT-F1, and can set a password. But I notice the archives so created still let you see the names of the files, (e.g., by using Far's virtual directory view of archives) though you cannot extract them without the password. Often I get encrypted RAR archives and you ca...

wrong file association

I've installed several media players. Previously I had "Media Player Classic" (MPC) as the default for AVI files. However, now I prefer to use VideoLan (VLC). In Windows "My Computer" file window I've changed the association of AVI files to open with VLC, when I click on a file h...

Thanks; I have been messing with the colours, though it's rather involved. The odd thing is that I used exactly the same scheme (basically the default) as I used on Win98 on the same hardware; but that was perfectly legible. Obviously the video drivers and other system settings (Gamma?) play a part....

Yes, I did; I've made a few FAR associations that work.
See attached. (Incidentally, is the colour of text normal? Some modes, like this, have very low contrast text.)

Can't set up a new viewer for archives

Often I find zip or rar archives of images, eg comic books. To view them I could unzip and use any image viewer (like ACDSee) , but I've found a very nice (free) app, "CDisplay Comic Reader" (http://www.geocities.com/davidayton/CDisplay) which can open and display archives or images as a s...

Well, if a Word doc is displayed in Quickview, and I edit and try to save the file, I get the message You cannot save while the file is in use by another process. Try saving the file with a new name. This is Win98, Word 97. Photoshop fails saying Could not save file.psd because the file is locked. U...

Quickview locks files

I often have Quickview in the left pane, however if I select a file in the right pane and press enter to run the default app, if I edit the file (eg, Word, Photoshop) it stops with an error message when saving. I can swap to Far and turn of QV, but it seems unnecessary for the file to be locked if i...

"Search again" in View stuck

If I view any file with the built-in View and search (F7) for a string, it is highlighted. If I press F7 again I'd expect to go to the next instance of that string, but the highlight doesn't move. I have to scroll the screen until the first find is not visible, then search again to get the next. Cou...

mouse double-clicks

Far 1.70 on Win98. I've been using this fine for a few years, today single mouseclicks in Far are acting like doubleclicks. This does not happen in other apps, just Far. No changes made to mouse, or anything else I can think of. The only thing about "mouse" in the FAQ is about quickedit. T...
