Well, the fact is that FAR is very user-unfriendly for new users (even if they are very good with computers, they will have hard time with FAR). But if you give FAR all your attention and enough time, it will be worth it. I wouldn't want to change the way FAR's interface works. What might be useful,...

I don't need unicode at all. As long as it doesn't break anything else, I don't mind having it, but as far as I am concerned, it is something that can wait.

I wonder, which languages need unicode filenames? I assume asian languages do, but any others?

I have a few questions regarding FileCopyEx, too. I don't read russian so I can't look it up in the help file: 1) How exactly do I use the queue? 2) FileCopyEx first reads as much source files into memory and then writes it to disk. Which is a fine and perfectly logical thing to do. Except in Parale...

TwoEdit looks about right. I'll have to do some more testing to fully understand its features (my russian is very rusty to understand the docs), but it could be just the thing I am looking for. Thanks!

It works, but it doesn't really give a very readable output :-(

Compare text files

Hi guys,

is there any plugin for comparing text files by content? Something which would tell me which line was added, deleted or changed? Basically, I am looking for a FAR plugin version of e.g. WinMerge or Total Commander's Compare By Content.

Do you really thinkit will help? If you didn't get any answers by now, it probably means nobody knows (or maybe cares, though I would expect the "knows" is the problem). Bumping it all the time will only annoy everyone.

I don't know this particular plugin, but I use several that fail if DEP (Data Execution Prevention) is turned on. Try to add FAR on the "do not use DEP" list (in Control Panel - System - Advanced - Performance - DEP), maybe it will help.

My Favorites: FAR Commands - I don't know what took me so long to discover this wonderful plugin! Now I don't see how could I live without far:view <for /? and similar command lines! FRename - I much prefer this plugin's way of renaming files (by opening their list in the editor and letting me to us...

1) RAR.EXE needs to be somewhere where FAR can locate it. That means either in any directory in the system path (for example WINDOWS and WINDOWS\SYSTEM32 are in the path by default) or in FAR directory.

2) I believe the Background Copy plugin should do it. I don't use it, though.

3) ALT+letter

Great! Even with my read-only knowledge of C I managed to add the progress bar to the compare plugin. It certainly isn't as efficient as it could be, I prefered to go for certainty rather than for the top speed, but it works. I have a few questions though: 1) I am using FARINT64 for filesizes. Is it...

Thanks, I will give it a try.

The main thing I want to add is a progress indicator for the current file and for all files (just like a copy progress indicator).

Help with compiling plugins

Hi! If there is anyone patient enough, I need help compiling FAR plugins. First a little background: I want to modify the Advanced Compare plugin to 1) display a progress indicator (I use A.C. to verify my burned DVDs) and 2) to display a list of files that don't match (as opposed to the default beh...
