Do you have the [x] Use right Alt as AltGr setting checked?
When does RAltShift hides the panels? To hide the panels you need to press CtrAltShift.

Load FAR using Console Manager

And you will be able to use a buffer of any size, and much more.

Well, this is actualy a feature. But you can use The Underscore to override this behaviour.
