Will there be a change log in the future?
You might have noticed that the 2051 news contain some russian text.
And yes, there will be a change log in the future.

I did notice that myself. Someone had posted a question about it on the forum too, and the response mentioned a translation issue. Since most of it was in English I was able to find out what the majority of the changes were.

FAR 1.71?

Post by Lofote »

So, whats new in the current 1.71 alpha?
Is Unicode support (the no.#1 request feature) finally going to be implemented?

But I've heard a rumor that there is an alpha somewhere in the depths of Far Labs inc.

Yeah, I downloaded it few months ago from russian part of this forum. It's really unbelievable to see all those national charcters in filenames, really great feeling about FAR not complaining about files which he can't find or directories which he cannot enter. Simply something we all longing for so many years.

But this alpha was so unstable that you shouldn't think about anything else than watching above described beauty of unicode.

I wonder, which languages need unicode filenames? I assume asian languages do, but any others?

It's not languages, it's users, who need it. ;)

Non unicode program use the ASCII table which contains only 256 characters with 128 of them preset - let's say your windows locale is russian - in this case the ASCII tables contains both english and russian alphabet but nothing more - so if you have a file with let's say a french name a non unicode program cannot process it.
