Resizing the window
Resizing the window
I just downloaded FAR, looking for something like mc but native to windows.
There's one convenience I'm missing: Real resizing of the window.
When I use mc (via PuTTY) I can resize the window (pull a corner or maximize) and mc adapts itself to the new size-even on my ancient windows 98. There's no useful way to resize a console window here.
I think, PuTTY may be implemented as a full windows application, not a console application, even if it only creates a text mode screen (fixed fonts) in the main window. An additional benefit of this approach: full control over the charset and a scroll back buffer.
Is there any chance that you implement something like that in the near future? (No need for fancy window(s) dressings-the current text menus are fine with me. I just crave the resizing and maybe real font/size selection ...)
More about PuTTY (incl. source)

Well, it can't be added to FAR at the moment, but there are several ways to achieve resizing of windows:
1. use Console Manager (see plugring), it enables real resize
2. run "mode con cols=NUM lines=NUM"
3. AltF9 to maximize the window
Selecting fonts and font sizes can be done through shortcut properties.

That's too bad ...t-rex wrote:Well, it can't be added to FAR at the moment,
doesn't seem to run under windows 98: There is no "console_server.exe" as mentioned in the readme and starting "conman.exe" doesn't do anything.but there are several ways to achieve resizing of windows:

No chance: that just gives me an error message about an invalid number of columns.2. run "mode con cols=NUM lines=NUM"
Funny, that just pops the window into the upper left corner and resizes it to 80x25. Just like the totally useless "Maximize" from the menu.3. AltF9 to maximize the window
The only thing you can select under windows 98 is a font size ...Selecting fonts and font sizes can be done through shortcut properties.
Don't funk with my Funk.
Ah, win98. Then you can use the sizer utility
http://plugring.farmanager.com/downld/f ... izer01.rar
and about that AlftF9 problem, it should work fine in the latest alpha.

THANX! It works!t-rex wrote:Ah, win98. Then you can use the sizer utility

Even if I ould hardly understand a word in the readme (only the program names ... ). Is there an english version around?

No, but you can translate and submit it to the authorN|bert wrote:THANX! It works!t-rex wrote:Ah, win98. Then you can use the sizer utility

Can I suggest one thing for how FAR adapts it's size to the console: currently, FAR will fill whole buffer, meaning that it's mostly unusable if I want to have large buffer (to see longer output of commands I've run). If I run mc in cygwin, it'll confine itself to the visible portion of the screen buffer (OK, there are some problems if the screen buffer is wider than the visible portion, but there's not much point in using the window that way). Any chance FAR could do this, too?
Load FAR using Console Manager
http://plugring.farmanager.com/downld/f ... _v2.30.rar
And you will be able to use a buffer of any size, and much more.
